  For those wishing to enjoy the sights, scents and tranquility of the many gardens, parks and horticultural activities on offer in the Chipping Campden and North Cotswold area.

We are sure you will find a rich variety of gardens and parkland full of rare shrubs, herbaceous borders, topiary as well as being able to spot those old fashioned cottage garden favourites.
   
 
003.5 miles - Mill Dene Garden, Blockley - GL56 9HU

Tranquil, peaceful, away from it all - just some of the comment about this family-run garden.  Laid outto build up anticipation, the garden has surprises around each corner from the mill pond and brook at the bottom to the herb potager at the top with views over hte hill.

003.8 miles - Kiftsgate Court Gardens, Hidcote, nr Chipping Campden - GL55 6LR

Encompassing the whole escarpment, Kiftsgate Court Garden is a series of interconnecting gardens and themes initiated by Heather Muir in the 1920s and carried onwards by her family until today. Whether or not you like plants and gardens, there is a tremendous offering of beauty that will satisfy and inspire almost everyone who is privileged to visit.

 

Two new departures for 2006 are sales of continually chaging selection of home grown plants on the days that the gardens are open, and a tearoom run by Margueritte and David offering light lunches anda selection of delightful cakes.  The gardens are not open every day of the week, you advised to check by looking at the Kiftsgate Court website - click on the picture to the right.

 

Parts of the gardens are set on very steep banks that many will find very difficult to cope with. Maps showing recommend routes for people with limited mobility are available at the garden entrance.  Additonally, powered wheelchairs are not recommended because the narrowness and unevenness of some paths. A very strong companion is likely to be needed by most wheelchair users.  Because the drive is gravelled, wheelchair users should drive right up to the garden entrance.

 


 
003.9 miles - Hidcote Manor Gardens - Hidcote Bartrim, Nr Chipping Campden - GL55 6LN

Reached by the twisting lanes of the Cotswold countryside, Hidcote was created by Major Lawrence Johnston and is one of the most inventive and influencial gardens ot be found in this country.  It is structured like linked outdoor rooms, with just about everything that you would like to find in your own garden and more.

It is famous for its rare shrubs and trees, the magnificent colour of its borders andspecies of flowers from all over the world.  This and the various styles of its rooms makes for an interesting visit at any time of the year, because there is always one room at its peak.  

As well as enjoying the gardens themselves, this National Trust facility offers refreshments, an accessible shop for gifts, Simple Foods outlet and  a plant sales centre, etc.

005.5 miles - Snowshill Manor Gardens, Snowshill - WR12 7JU

 Plantswoman's garden for all seasons.  A treasure trove of unusual perennials, shrubs & bulbs, overflowing through heraceous borders, crab apple walk, measdow, water garden and terraved herb garden.

006.3 miles - Batsford Arboretum - Batsford Park, Moreton im Marsh - GL56 9QB
Situated one about 5 miles from Chipping Campden and near the bottom of Bourton on the Hill  on the road to Moreton-in-Marsh, Batsford Arboretum is tucked away on a south facing escarpment of the famous Cotswold Hills.  Click on the picture to reach their website.

006.4 miles - Sezincote, Bourton on Hill - GL56 9AW
Sezincote is a unique and extraorinary Indian house set amidst the Cotswold Hills - architecture is in the Mogul style of Rajasthan.  Acurved Orangery frames the Persian Garden of Paradise with its fountains and canals.

The house is set within a rommantic garden with pools, waterfalls, a grotto and a temple to the Hindu Sun God.

Garden open 14.00 - 16.00 Thursdays, Fridays & Bank Holiday Mondays from January to November.  Regret no dogs except guide dogs.  ADmission £4 adults & £1.50 children, groups by special arrangement.

14 acres of magificent gardens including Queens Garden with its abundance of roses and the intricate topiary of the Knot Garden.
